THORSMORK (Þórsmörk)
Þórsmörk, also known as Thorsmork, is a breathtaking mountain range in Iceland, situated between the Tindfjallajökull glacier to the north and the Eyjafjallajökull glacier to the south. Famous for sitting at the end point to the famous Laugavegur trek, it has incredible natural scenery. On this adventure you’ll be led by local guides who have hand picked what they consider to be the best trails, taking in breathtaking scenery, including waterfalls, and panoramic views of the surrounding glaciers and mountains.
The area is named after the Norse deity Thor (Þórr), emphasising its close connection to Icelandic mythology (Great if you’ve watched hit TV series Vikings!) The other-worldly landscape of Þórsmörk has been moulded by glacial movements and volcanic eruptions, leading to unique geological formations such as deep canyons, rich valleys, and the growth of some rare plant life.
THE IMPORTANT STUFF
At Adventuress in the Wild we work with tour operators who are providing trips for anybody who identifies as a woman. We have found that women are more likely to step out of their comfort zone and try new activities when they are surrounded by other supportive women. All of the tour operators we work with believe that adventure is for every woman no matter your background, ability, body type, or orientation, and are handpicked for total safety and quality.
If you want to see the best of Iceland’s insane scenery, but are limited on time, funds, and extreme hiking skills, then this one is for you!
This hike promises the best of Icelandic scenery without the need for extreme physical prep. You will still need a good level of fitness to take on this trek, but it will be far les demanding than the popular Laugavegur trail.
You can anticipate daily hikes lasting anywhere from 3 to 6 hours. While exploring Þórsmörk, you’ll encounter various challenging areas, including narrow ridges, steep moraines, drop-offs, and rugged terrain. The elevation changes won’t be too drastic, and the more difficult parts of the trail are clearly marked and accessible, often featuring constructed steps for easier navigation.
No single supplement is available on this tour. You’ll be spending two nights in a shared dorm style hut with hikers from other tour group, so these can be mixed gender.
