After enjoying breakfast in the hostel we will pack our bags and prep our lunch before heading out for our first big hike day. We will be making our way from the village of Grindelwald and hiking up towards the North face of the Eiger. We will do all our climbing in the morning with a big 1200m of ascent to do before enjoying lunch at the top. Here we will pass the famous Jungfraujoch which is a famous cog train that takes people from the valley floor to 3,454m. It is the highest railway station in Switzerland and Europe. Then we will descend into the next valley and get a glimpse of our next village Lauterbrunnen. We will check into our hostel where we have twin rooms booked for the night and decide as a group where we would like to go for dinner.

Trümmelbach alone drains the enormous glacial walls of the Eiger (3970m), Mönch (4099m) and Jungfrau (4158m) with up to a spectacular 20,000 litres of water per second. We will then hike to the end of the valley and start our climb up to Murren.

A head for heights is totally necessary as you will be high above the Lauterbrunnen valley, Very steep passages are assisted with the use of stairs, ladders and grips. This climb is 2.2km long with 300-meter altitude difference. One of the highlights is the crossing of the gorge at the end of the climb with a Nepalese style bridge. Day 4 – Mountain Hut

Distance: 7km

Ascent/Decent: 520m/113m

Today we will enjoy breakfast then go grab some supplies from the shop as we won’t have any opportunity now for 3 days. We will stock up on snacks and head of towards our first alpine hut.

Today is an easier day to rest the legs for our biggest ascent the day after. The mountain hut

is a beautiful location and is a nice place to sit and enjoy the surrounding landscapes. Tonight we will eat at the hut and they provide a 4 course menu at 6:30pm. It will be bunk style rooms shared with others who are hiking the via alpina. This mountain hut is also a farm so they have some amazing home-made cakes and milkshakes. They accept cash and card if you wanted to buy any snacks.

Inclusions

  • Breakfast, Lunch & dinner included.
  • Shared dorm room accommodation.

Distance: 14km

Ascent/Decent: 1870m/1159m

Today we will have breakfast in the hut at 7am. As it is our biggest day we will have an early start to give ourselves plenty of time to get the route done. We have two passes to cross today and we start climbing as soon as we leave the hut. We then descend into the Griesalp valley where we will then begin to climb again. There is a hut en route we can stop off for a cold drink and some fresh cheese which they make on their farm.

We then climb up to our second mountain hut which is located at 2880m on top of the pass next to the glacier. Here we will sit down again at 6:30pm for a 3 course dinner.

Inclusions:

  • Breakfast, Lunch & dinner included. Shared dorm room accommodation.

Distance: 12km

Ascent/Decent: 89m/1651m

We will enjoy our last mountain hut breakfast together and pack our bags. We will then spend most of the day descending down to Kandersteg. On route we will pass the beautiful lake of Oeschinen where we can enjoy a celebratory dip if we’re brave enough. Here we can either decide to take the ski lift down to the village of Kandersteg or hike down. We have a lovely hotel waiting for us with an pool, sauna and steam room. We will head out for our final dinner together in a restaurant.

  •  Breakfast and Lunch. Hotel accommodation – twin room. Dinner not included.

Time to say farewell and swap numbers with your travel fam who you would have shared some incredible moving moments with. Time to start dreaming of your next adventure!

YOUR GUIDE

You’ll be embarking on this epic journey with Sidetracked Adventures, led by expert wilderness guide and founder of the company Sophie Nolan. Sophie’s life changed when she took a trip to Lapland and fell in love with the remote wilderness. That one trip inspired her to escape the rat race to endure a year of intense wilderness training in Finland, fending for herself in extreme conditions. Since 2018 Sophie has been guiding worldwide, taking travelers to hard to reach places, working with a team of 90% female wilderness guides.

SWISS ALPS

It’s undeniable that the Swiss Alps will move you, as you look out to a never ending sea of snow dusted mountainous peaks, crystal clear glacial lakes, and green valleys, with nothing but the sounds of nature to disturb you.

Only 15% of the Alps lie in Switzerland, but the Swiss Alps boast some of the most impressive peaks, such as Eiger, Matterhorn and Jungfrau. These insane landscapes began to form 65-million years ago as a result of Eurasian and African tectonic plates colliding, and they straddle eight countries – Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Monaco and Slovenia.

Most will experience the Swiss Alps from the little villages and famous train lines, but on this adventure you’ll be wandering deep into the heart of the Alps, experiencing real mountain country.

ESSENTIAL INFO

How fit do I need to be?

This is a challenging trip so you will need to have some previous hiking experience on different/steep terrains. You will need to:

  • Have the ability to hike 15km along a trail with a backpack of around 10-15kg
  • You will need to be able to hike up to1800m of elevation in one day
  • The idea is to travel as light as possible so we’re not carrying huge backpacks.
  • You need to be happy travelling in a group and have a good sense of adventure
Do I need travel insurance for this trip?

Yes, travel insurance is a must. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance to cover you for all aspects this trip, including cancellation.

Kit List

As told by your guide:

Hiking the beautiful rocky trails under the epic peaks of the Alps is quite something. After years of trekking and guiding in the Alps here is what I will pack for our 6-Day Swiss Alps Trek this August. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a novice explorer, proper packing is essential to enjoying multiple days on the mountain. With the convenience of staying in mountain huts, inns, and hostels along the route, I will opt for a lighter pack, focusing on essentials and leaving unnecessary weight behind. The past few summers In the Alps have been incredibly warm but I will always be prepared for a variety of weather as in the mountains you just never know. Here’s a comprehensive guide on what to pack for your 6-day Alpine adventure:

Clothing

MOISTURE-WICKING T-SHIRTS

2/3x Lightweight, breathable tops to keep you dry and comfortable during the trek and to change to in the evening after the hike. I will take a mix of Merino and quick-drying T-shirts, long and short-sleeved.

INSULATING LAYERS

A Fleece jacket or lightweight insulated jacket for warmth during chilly evenings and windy cols. Having a thin layer to add on when hiking in the morning, and something extra to add on when we stop for lunch. I will take a thin fleece layer and an insulated jacket ( Arc’teryx delta fleece and a Patagonia Micro Puff)

SHORTS, LEGGINGS OR HIKING TROUSERS

Ideally, I spend all summer in shorts, but I will also pack a pair of thin hiking leggings for the evening and cooler days. Hike in what you are comfortable in.

WATERPROOF LAYERS

Essential for protection against rain, wind, and unexpected weather changes. I will pack a thin pair of waterproof trousers which rarely get used and a waterproof jacket. (Decathlon rain pants & Fjallraven EcoShell)

COMFORTABLE HIKING BOOTS/TRAIL SHOES

Worn in boots/shoes for traction and stability on rugged terrain. I will spend all summer in my trail shoes as I prefer them to boots because they’re light and breathable. The best option is always the pair you are used to.

MOISTURE-WICKING SOCKS

I will pack 3 pairs of quick-drying socks to keep your feet dry and blister-free. It’s really important to look after your feet and if you feel a hotspot to treat it right away with Compeed or similar.

SUN PROTECTION

A wide-brimmed hat (I’m a big fan of a bucket hat), sunglasses, and sunscreen to shield against the strong Alpine sun. We spend a lot of time out in the sun and it’s really important to protect yourself.

GLOVES, BEANIE AND A BUFF

Lightweight gloves and a beanie for warmth during chilly mornings and evenings, they are small  items but can make a big difference if the weather drops.

Gear

LIGHTWEIGHT BACKPACK 45-55L

Opt for a comfortable, well-fitted backpack with enough capacity for your essentials. Tests that it all fits in well with 1.5l of water before heading out.

SLEEPING BAG LINER

A lightweight sleeping bag liner for added warmth and cleanliness in mountain huts.

WATER BOTTLE/ BLADDER

You will need to carry a minimum of 1.5l a day to stay hydrated on the trail with a durable, refillable water bottle/bladder. Some days you can’t always refill en route.

TREKKING POLES

I highly recommend using hiking poles. They provide stability and support, especially on steep ascents and descents and save your knees for all those future adventures.

HEADLIGHT & MULTI TOOL/KNIFE

The headtorch is useful for having in the mountain huts and its always handy to have a multi-tool or a knife. Even if it’s just used to cut some delicious alpine cheese.

First Aid Kit

A basic FA kit which includes basic supplies such as adhesive bandages, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers, and blister treatment. If you join one of our guided trips then your guide will carry a full first aid kit but it is always good to have some of your own supplies.

Toiletries and Personal Care

TRAVEL-SIZED TOILETRIES

Pack essentials like a toothbrush, toothpaste, biodegradable soap, moisturiser in small containers

QUICK-DRY TOWEL

Lightweight and compact, ideal for drying off after a shower or a dip in one of the stunning alpine lakes

Other

MAP AND COMPASS (OR GPS)

Ensure you have navigation tools to stay on course, especially in remote areas.

CASH AND ID

Carry sufficient cash for purchases in mountain huts and hostels, along with identification documents. Some take cards but it’s always good to have some cash just in case.

SNACKS

Super important for keeping you going throughout the day, especially those long climbs! I’m a big Colin the Catapillar and Medule dates fan!

A list of gear that will be needed for the trip. This basic list is essential so let us know if you don’t have everything and we can help. The idea is to travel light so we can move a bit faster. A way to do this is to clean your t shirts/socks when you have a shower each day. The weather is often warm enough to easily dry it for the next day.

  • Cap/ bucket hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Buff – Neck warmer
  • Upper Body
  • Waterproof Jacket
  • Thin insulated jacket
  • Fleece/ mid layer
  • T- shirt x2 (x1 for hiking in
  • x1 for evenings)

Accommodation

We will travel from inn-to-inn on this trip staying in different accommodations each night. We have tried to include the details of the room setup on the trip schedule but this may change due to availability. We will stay in a mix of hostels, mountain huts and hotels. Each will have showers, toilets, running water. In the hostels and hotels we will have shared twin/triple rooms. They will often have WIFI. The final hotel of the trip will often include a swimming pool with sauna so if you’d like to use this please pack your swim wear.

We will stay in a mix of hostels, hotels and mountain huts. We spend 2 nights in different mountain huts, one is a farm and is a small wood lodge set mid-climb up the valley with a beautiful view of the Jungfrau mountains. We will sleep in a 8-bed dorm room here. We will have a 4-course dinner with the whole hut and have a chance to have a shower. The next mountain hut is at our highest point of the trip 2800m. It is a larger hut with lots of hikers and climbers using it. We will stay in a larger dorm with possibly 20 people on bunk beds. We will have a 3-course meal altogether. The atmosphere is always really special in these huts. Then we finish in a fancy hotel on the final night with a pool and a sauna.

Flights aren't included - What time should I arrive?

Your guide will meet you in Gimmelwald on the first day of the trip at 4pm. Here we will go through the plan for the week, and head out for dinner together (not included)

You’ll finish the trip in Kandersteg on the final day after breakfast and you are free to leave anytime on the final day of the trip as there are no activities planned after breakfast.

I recently joined a weekend trip with Adventuress In The Wild in the Peak District and it exceeded all my expectations! The weekend was filled with well-organised activities, including peaceful hiking in nature, rock-climbing and abseiling. As a first time climber, i felt both excitement and fear, but the encouraging environment made all the difference! Our host, Kate, was friendly and welcoming, ensuring everyone felt included throughout the trip. Kate provided useful information and fun facts, making the trip safe and interesting. One of the best parts was meeting lovely people who shared a passion for the outdoors.I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and highly recommend Adventuress In The Wild to anyone looking for an outdoor adventure!

The Adventuress tour to Morocco was an amazing experience. Our local guide Hafida took us to areas not commonly frequented by tourists and we were privileged to have genuine interactions with local people. A truely memorable trip with a fabulous group of women.

I went to Morocco with Adventuress and it was the trip of the lifetime. Our guide knew all the locals, was kind and generous and gave us an experience that was not overpopulated with other tourists and included unique cultural interactions. Kate herself is thoughtful and mindful of the adventures that she organizes for us.

Re: PEAK DISTRICT HIKE AND CLIMB WEEKEND.If in doubt, book it now! The beauty of the landscape is unparalleled, the thrill of the climb is a great boost for selfconfidence, and so many laughs with the crew! This trip is moderate and accessible to most people, I am not super sporty nor particularly strong myself, but the weekend is designed to make everyone welcome. Kate Capelli is a superstar!Re: SEVEN SISTERS EASTER HIKE.I had the best time with the best people and the best weather, exploring the best section of the ‘South Downs Way’. Kate Capelli knows what she is doing and I would follow her anywhere. The general vibe was inclusive and warm and friendly, you do not need to be super fit to take part.

I have been lucky enough to enjoy 3 activities with AITW, 2 of which have been overseas trips! "Adventures" does not even begin to describe the experiences I had on both of my trips with this group. My first trip with AITW was in October/November 2022, and I still have fond memories and friendships that were formed, sharing laughter, conquering challenges, and taking in the beautiful scenery of South Africa. Hiking, yoga, camping, bouldering, and wine tasting were all part of the itinerary, but what wasn't planned was just the awe and feeling I was left with when the trip was over. I had so much fun that I booked another overseas trip in March 2024 to Lapland. I got to try snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, a traditional Finnish sauna, and ice dipping. We even got to stay in a cozy cabin where we shared delicious meals, took turns sledding, had a private sauna, and even laughed our way into playing in the snow between sauna breaks. We had 2 wonderful Finnish guides leading us into the beautiful Lapland wilderness, and we got to have lunch at our very own woman-made ice table/bar. Our last night was quite magical, as we got to see the Northern lights for the 2nd time on the trip and were mesmorised by its glow. It was an empowering trip, and Kate takes thoughtful consideration in planning and organising events that promote community support. I can't wait to join another adventure!

I can’t recommend Adventuress in the Wild highly enough after an epic week exploring the magical scenery of the Finnish Lapland. We were very lucky to have Kate with us, and I must say I couldn’t possibly think of a better professional travel companion. We also had qualified wilderness guides with us, and again, they were really professional and friendly, and they were adapting to our needs at all times. The accommodation had great views and was really pretty, it also had a fireplace and traditional Finnish sauna, and getting up in the mornings in such a setting was quite a thing.Spent our days hiking in the wilderness, snow shoeing, trying nordic backcountry ski, ice dipping and having yummy home made meals. We also managed to see the northern lights for two nights and had lots of fun as strangers to start with but as friends by the end of the trip.A really empowering experience and I have already booked to go again next year.

Truely, an amazing trip with a bunch of lovely ladies and two aspiring female wilderness guides. A week packed with fun activities, nordic skiing, snowshoeing, hike to the fell for aurora, yoga, sauna/ice dip, laughter, banter, a perfect traditional log cabin in the magical Lapland landscape. My 1st all female group trip and definitely not my last. Experiences are shared, fond memories to look back on and friendships formed. LOVED IT, AITW/Sidetracked thank you!

Kate is incredible! She has a great ethos and works incredibly hard teaming up with group's lead/run by women and making sure everyone is ok. Lapland adventure, was the second overseas trip with Adventuresses and it was phenomenal. The group was hilarious/encouraging and the guides (Sirpa and Lotta), made the trip so special for everyone.

Still buzzing after a truly wonderful trip to Northern Finland with Kate and Adventuress in the Wild. From start to finish, Kate was really responsive and set the tone for an encouraging and fun space to try new things, take on challenging situations, and have a lot of laughs with a great group of women. Kate provided us with an exceptionally curated week, filled with snow shoe hiking, cross country skiing, ice dipping and even seeing the northern lights in our PJs!Would absolutely recommend AITW to anyone after an adventure!

I’ve just come back from an absolutely fantastic winter skills weekend up in the snowy Scottish highlands with Adventuress in the wild.It was a perfect weekend from the outset!Kate, the founder of adventuress in the wild and our mountain leader, Charlie , immediately put you at ease going through the itinerary for the weekend. On the Saturday Charlie introduced us to the lovely Scottish winter and what it had to offer. We learnt how to make wise decisions, use crampons, use ice axes and generally have lots of fun safely in the snow!On the Sunday we put all of the skills we had learnt the day before to good use as we hiked up a snowy mountain…and oh boy…the views were unreal! We were very very lucky with the weather and I felt I was living a dream. The memories I have made from the weekend will last a lifetime. My only regret is that it didn’t last longer as I was definitely not ready to come home!Thank you to Kate, Charlie, Gaby and Jean for making the trip so memorable. It won’t be the last trip I take with Adventuress in the wild!

I have just finished the 4 week bouldering course with Kate and it was so helpful in getting me into bouldering. She really eases you into it and the course is layed out really well. Kate is an amazing instructor as she takes the time to learn about you and doesnt just coach you on the physical side but the mental side too which for me was the main obstacle for me progressing. By the time I had my 2nd session with her I was a lot less shakey and from the very first session I was able to complete climbs. She pushes you outside your comfort zone yet not so much that it puts you off bouldering completely. In such a small amount of time Ive seen so much progress in my bouldering and having all the techniques she has taught me under my belt I now feel confident enough to enter a bouldering gym on my own.

The journey and trip through Morocco was a dream come true, filled with unparalleled experiences that go beyond the ordinary. From immersing myself in the ancient traditions of nomadic life to witnessing the awe-inspiring beauty of the Sahara Desert under the starlit sky, entire adventure was nothing short of extraordinary with the breathtaking hikes in the majestic mountains .Having Kate and Hafida as our guides undoubtedly added an extra layer of magic to our trip. I had the most amazing week of my life on an expedition to the Pyrenees with Adventuress in the Wild and 360 Expeditions. I had never travelled solo before and was so nervous to go on an expedition with a group of people I’d never met. Adventuress couldn’t have been better, Kate made sure everyone was happy throughout the trip. She took the time to speak with everyone on the trip and answered any concerns we had. She kept us all up to date in the WhatsApp chat and put a packing list in the chat each day to help us know what to pack for the days activities. The group were amazing, everyone was so lovely and we all really bonded over the week. It was a week filled with smiles and laughter, we all supported and cheered each other on as we tried new and challenging things outwith our comfort zones. I absolutely cannot wait to book more activities with adventuress and genuinely recommend them to everyone!

I attended the course "Confidence Outdoors" and I enjoyed a lot. Kate is creating a very comfortable atmosphere and she is providing a complete course both, for beginners and more advance hikers. Highly Recommend!I wanted to make a positive change and to go out and meet new people with similar interests and to build my confidence and self-esteem. I’d always loved walking and hiking but never felt I knew enough to do it on my own (or even if it was something you could do solo!) Then I came across Adventuress in the Wild. Kate’s Confidence Outdoors course was exactly what I was looking for.The course included subjects like: planning your own hike and creating your own route; keeping safe and how to deal with emergencies; choosing kit and equipment; multi-day camping and backpacking and then the option of going on a hike and meeting all the people on the course in the final week.I was very nervous to go on my own but I didn’t need to be; I was instantly put at ease. Kate is very friendly and welcoming and all the ladies attending were great. It was a really lovely day and Kate was a brilliant guide.I’d put planning solo hikes off, but now armed with my new knowledge and confidence, I’m looking forward getting out there.Kate, thank you. I also can’t wait to go on more of your hikes soon.

Kate is a fantastic guide and leader. I feel inspired and motivated to undertake more treks, which as an inexperienced woman who wants to get more outdoorsy feels so empowering. However, my favourite part is the adventuress community - I have done both the compass navigation and confidence outdoors courses, and the community that Kate has an integral role in developing of Adventuresses feels like a truly welcoming, supportive environment. I’ve already booked onto more adventuress walks - if you’re not sure, just sign up!

I've been thinking about joining this group for so long and I'm so glad I finally did! So nice to get out of London with some likeminded, friendly people. Kate is a great guide, very knowledgeable and always making sure everyone feels welcome. I also like that there are a lot of options, from day hikes to overseas trips to bouldering. Very highly recommended!

I’ve had such a brilliant time on my days with the adventuress gang! I did a couple of hikes in January and the confidence outdoors course in March. Kate is very experienced and knowledgeable, and creates a really relaxed and friendly environment. It’s a lovely way to meet like-minded people whilst exploring some beautiful places and building confidence to go it alone at some point. Highly recommend!

Such a great community to be a part of! I'm new to town, so I was nervous to start coming out, but Kate and the girls made me feel welcome right away. I now attend the hikes and bouldering and beer sessions regularly. The group that turns up is always a mix of new and familiar faces, and everyone receives that same warm welcome. Getting outside is medicine for me. Getting outside with other women is even more so. For any women looking to get into nature more and meet other women who like doing the same, I can't recommend this group enough!

I had a fantastic time hiking in Epping Forest with such lovely friendly people. Kate is a brilliant guide and is so welcoming - I felt very welcome attending on my own. Such a great way of getting out into the countryside and escaping London! Highly recommended.

Kate is a great guide and she's managed to create an amazing community of women around her. The hikes she organizes are not only a way of exploring London and its surroundings, but also to connect to other people. 10/10 would recommend

Such a vibe! I was pretty stoked when I first found Adventuresses and even more so now that I have attended a few events. Kate is a great guide, always full of fun facts about nature and making sure everyone feels safe and welcome. What I love most though is the community, a bunch of cool chicks you get to hike/climb and have a drink with. Thanks for creating this, you'll be seeing my face a lot :)P.S. make sure to join one of the abroad adventures, it was truly an experience of a lifetime 😍

I've joined several adventures with Adventuress in the Wild, and I can confidently say that they are life changing experiences. As someone who moved to the UK, they gave me the opportunity to explore the outdoors around London and meet new people in a safe, friendly environment.Kate is a very experienced and organised guide, and she has created a platform that empowers women in many ways. I couldn't recommend them more.
