DAY 1
-
ARRIVAL
Hitting the trails
9:30am: You’ll start your Snowdonia mountain biking weekend by meeting your guides and fellow riders at Betws y Coed cafe ‘Find Me Cooking’. In the courtyard we will make the introductions and discuss the plans for the day. We’ll also conduct safety checks on your bikes and kit before we pedal off on our first day’s riding adventure!
During the day we will be journeying along beautiful, forest and mountain trails where we can practise skills and build confidence.
Our day on the bike will be full-on but super fun! Mixing up the marked MTB trails, bridleways and venturing ‘off-piste’, around the famous Gwydir Forest means you’ll feel challenged but will build confidence in a friendly, supportive environment.
4pm: We will return to Betws y Coed for refreshments. There will be plenty of time for those who are keen on wild swimming to join us at our favourite river pool and have a dip. This isn’t compulsory of course!
6.30pm: You are welcome to join us for an hour of yoga which will be a deep dive into a muscle release, recovery session which will soothe those aches and pains and set you up for Sunday’s adventure.
25km | 600m of ascent
DAY 2
-
LETS RIDE!
Riding & Wild Swim
9:30am: We will meet in Capel Curig (weather dependant) for a wonderful mountain journey. This loop takes us into the heart of Snowdonia (Eryri) over high passes, and into remote valleys. The terrain is rocky and rough but comes with a welcome relief on a deserted mountain lane which brings us back to our final pass climb, followed by a fun rapid descent back into Capel Curig. More gorgeous wild swimming opportunities await us in the clear waters of a lake before we finish the weekend with a well-deserved celebratory drink.
If weather is poor, we will head to the coastal hills for a lower level adventure above the UNESCO World Heritage town of Conwy.

Your guides
Ride High MTB was founded by expert rider and coach Kath Goodey. Born from her desire to share her biggest love with the world, downhill mountain biking.
Kath will be your guide on this trip. She has a combined 35 years of experience teaching both in the classroom and the mountains, with a very impressive collection of qualifications and competitive world wide riding experience.
SNOWDONIA NATIONAL PARK
Snowdonia is a stunning National Park with dramatic mountain scenery, deep valleys filled with lush Celtic rainforests, lakes and rivers. But what makes it extra special is the culture and language.
We ride among the ancient remnants of Roman roads, megalithic stone circles and standing stones.
We will ride on the foothills of the Carneddau mountain range, looking down on the amazing Conwy Castle built by Edward I in 1287 to finally crush the dominance of the Welsh Prince, Llywelyn.
Your knowledgeable local guides are keen foodies and will be taking you to the best cafes and refreshments stops. North Wales is a real coffee lovers paradise with 3 superb roasters in addition to some fab local craft beer breweries, bakeries, cafes and restaurants.
ESSENTIAL INFO
Our trips are specially tailored for women.
Research has shown that there is a ‘Confidence Gap’ between men and women, which is very clear when it comes to the world of outdoor adventure! From a young age girls are taught to shy away from risk, leading to less confidence with outdoor pursuits in later life.
We are here to push comfort zones and build confidence, paving the way for women to live a life of adventure.
Are you ready to meet your wild side?
There are bike shops within a 40-minute drive. If there is a problem with your bike that we can’t fix with our trailside repair skills, then a visit to a shop may be necessary.
Please ensure that you all bring the following:
Your bike! Please make sure it is in good working order and has recently been
- Checked over/serviced.
- Bike specific spares e.g. spare mech hanger, spare brake pads.
- Battery Charger / Extender for your E-Bike.
- Spare inner tube (s) to fit your rims size. Even if you are running tubeless, please bring an inner tube as tyre plugs and boots can fail. It is often way less faff with a group to simply put a new tube in!
- Tyres appropriate for rough terrain where grip is more important than rolling speed!
- We are big fans of Maxxis Minion/High Roller/Assegai EXO or Double Down which offer great grip and durability. Other brands also make fab tyres of course!
- Day pack in which to carry your usual trail tools, lunch, snacks, water and a spare jacket.
- Snack bars/gels/sweets whatever you usually use to snack on during a ride.
- Sandwich/wrap (your usual packed lunch for a good day out).
- Plenty of water to drink during the ride. There will be opportunities to top up while we’re out.
- A warm layer and a waterproof jacket. We will be going out even if it’s wet! This is Snowdonia and it can be deceptively cold up high.
- Helmet, knee pads, gloves, glasses (eye protection). A full-face helmet is not necessary but if you are used to wearing a helmet with a detachable chin bar, this is of course fine.
- Comfortable riding clothes and shoes for 2 days riding. If you ride clipped in, please ensure that your shoes are suitable for walking as there are likely to be short sections of pushing uphill.
- Any personal medication, particularly asthma inhalers.
- Finally, and most importantly… EXCITEMENT, ENTHUSIASM and a BIG SMILE!!!
This trip needs a minimum of 4 participants to run.
For this trip your guides will be:
Kath, Founder and guide of Ride High MTB Coaching
Kath has been an educator both in the mountains and the classroom for over 35 years and has taught, coached and led people of all ages and from all over the world.
Mountain biking is Kath’s main focus and passion. Her skills and experience on a bike have developed through riding extensively in the UK and the Alps, along with trips to Canada, US and Morocco. Due to her ski racing, rock climbing and mountaineering background, Kath offers a unique depth of experience to all those she teaches.
She has raced DH and Enduro in the UK and Europe. Also, events like the Megavalanche and the MaxiAvalanche series in France and Italy. Kath’s claim to fame was coming 2nd to Rachel Atherton (multi world cup and world champs winner) in the Welsh Enduro Champs in Machynlleth in 2017!
Kath’s bikes are: Ibis Ripmo, Nukeproof Reactor and Specialised Levo Expert (E-Bike). Favourite trails are close to home in the Gwydir forest, but also the amazing, alpine trails and ridge lines of the Aosta Valley, Italy.
Kath holds a wealth of outdoor qualifications, including both British Cycling Level 2 and 3 MTB Leadership qualifications, and the British Cycling L2 MTB Coaching qualification.
This weekend is aimed at:
- Women comfortable riding blue-red grade trails, but wanting to feel more confident exploring natural trails beyond the signposted routes. You should be comfortable riding 20-25km and climbing 800m. Note** E-Bikes and Analog are most welcome but do please ensure your bike is well-maintained and in good working order**
- Anyone looking to improve their biking skills on more ‘off-piste’, natural terrain.
- Those who have ever felt stiff or slow after a days riding, and want to learn how to maximise their recovery for the next day (no previous experience of yoga / pilates required!).
Ride High MTB does not supply rental bikes or equipment, but they can be found locally at..
We have no affiliation with either company and this is suggestion only.
As this is the UK the weather can be very unpredictable, even during warmer months. In the event of a weather warning this may mean that plans can change. This may mean taking on an alternative trails. The views mentioned will also be subject to weather conditions. There will always be a plan B!
